Job Opening – ENGINEERING LAB TECHNICIAN

ENGINEERING LAB TECHNICIAN

POSITION:    Responsible for building and testing sample motors, conducting application testing and providing analytical evaluation.  Will gather technical information, procure motor components, operate various measurement and electrical test equipment, present professional reports, and provide input regarding motor performance and troubleshooting.

  • Maintain open and frequent project related communication with peers, lab supervision, management, design engineers, quality engineers, team & area leaders, and others as required to fulfill sample orders accurately and on-time.
  • Process and complete sample requests with accuracy, documenting progress from initial layout to material procurement, component fabrication, sample building, testing, reporting, shipping, and filing.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of the production processes and equipment used to manufacture motors and related components, including; presses, winders, testers, lathes, diamond turns, insulators, wire fusers, magnetizers, varnish equipment, and various other types of assembly equipment.
  • Perform measurement and analytical testing with a wide range of equipment, including; caliper, micrometer, multi-meter, spectrum analyzer, hi-potential transformer, sound meter, oscilloscope, stroboscope, Magtrol computerized dynamometer, Fluke data collector, chart recorder, air flow chamber, microscope, and balancing equipment, etc. 
  • Create and implement continuous improvements in all areas of the lab including; the sample order process, sign off procedure, document control system, component procurement, motor fabrication, testing, etc.
  • Provide trouble shooting input, and repair or improve the function of the computerized test equipment (e.g., dynamometer, spectrum analyzer, etc.) when required.
  • Prepare and present technical test reports, such as computerized speed/torque curves, noise analysis and air flow studies using Microsoft programs.

REQUIREMENTS:   Position requires a minimum 2-year technical degree or a 4-year undergraduate degree in an electronical related discipline.  Good organization and project management skills.  Strong communication and reporting skills.  Knowledge and work experience with electric motors, controls or electronic equipment preferred.
